About the event
Think of poetry as an act of sharing. The writer shares with the reader an idea, or a feeling, or a story. In this series of workshops we will look at how accomplished poets use words to communicate with the reader. Then, following their example, we will try writing our own stories. We will not be too worried about studying the intricate details and structure of poetry. In the words of former poet laureate, Billy Collins, to his students:
I want them to water-ski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author’s name on the shore.
